BlogRank is a new ranking system for blogs. You really should check it out.

BlogRank dynamically ranks blogs in a wide variety of categories.  Here is a small sample of the categories:

  • music blogs
  • Asian food blogs
  • museum blogs
  • real estate blogs
  • technology blogs

The sheer number of categories and blogs is impressive.  Data is collected on about 20,000 blogs, although not all of those blogs appear in the rankings.

And of course there’s a category for small business blogs. And…

Ahh, the New York Times has an interesting article on PR in the tech industry. Funny that Brooke Hammerling doesn’t even live in Silicon Valley. But Silicon Valley is no longer a location, it’s a state of mind (I’m writing this in London where I am hanging out with a bunch of geeks and last night we met a bunch of local geeks who are doing some interesting things).

One quote, that caught my eye (it caught TechCrunch’s founder, Mike Arrington’s, too) is this one from Roger McNamee, after…

One thing I hated about being a corporate lawyer at Wilson Sonsini back in the day - we got to work on really cool deals (the last deal I worked on before leaving for a startup was the AOL/Netscape merger), but we were only brought in at the very end to paper everything. We fought over the fine print in the contracts after the meat of the deal was ironed out by CEOs. Skinning and dressing whatever the hunters bring back to the cave is fine for some people. But it’s not exactly being in the…

palinfb1Sarah Palin yesterday announced her plans to resign from the role of Governor of Alaska, leaving the press clueless as to why. Does she plan to retire from politics completely, or is she preparing to make a 2012 presidential bid? Palin is talking to no one…except Twitter and Facebook. In fact, Palin used her Facebook page to criticize the mainstream media for their treatment of her.

The press appears somewhat frustrated by the decision, with the AP producing a full-length article

Analysis

It has never been easy to sue government officials for actions they take in wartime, and such challenges, when allowed, fail more often than not.  One of the main problems has been that most of the information that is crucial to the case is in the goverment’s hands, and it is seldom eager to provide it — citing national security or the need to protect “state secrets.’

The obstacles, though, may be even higher now, as lawyers for a Kentucky man, Scott Tooley, are discovering in the…

madison“If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.”

James Madison, Federalist No. 51

On the Fourth, we celebrate a number of things: independence, liberty, bravery. Let me add another: metacognition.

For all the brilliance of America’s founders, for all their committment to the idea of freedom, for all their heroism in risking their lives to be free of British rule, the…

Today I received a round robin in my inbox. It seems to sum up the atmosphere in U.K. at the moment

This is unbelievable, but true! Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 600 employees and has the following employee statistics.
29 have been accused of spouse abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
9 have been accused of writing bad cheque’s
17 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit…

organic labelingPurity of Federal ‘Organic’ Label Is Questioned,” is a front page headline in today’s Washington Post. Considering that the organic label is largely a marketing scheme (or perhaps it is better described as a marketing scam) designed to get consumers to pay more for products that are no better than conventional ones, it’s hard for me to get worked up over the fact some farmers and processors are violating the federal program’s arbitrary rules.

One might reply that violations of the…
